Anyone who has tried working with a Sawzall in cramped quarters and making cuts in confined spaces will appreciate the Hatchet's multiposition folding handle, which reduces the tool's length to a mere 13 inches. While this is a truly innovative design for a reciprocating saw, the fact that this is also the first cordless Sawzall with a vibration-reducing counterbalance mechanism should not be overlooked. This is a feature many of us have been waiting to see in the cordless Sawzall, and it is especially appreciated in uncomfortably close quarters, where any extra vibration and shock just makes your job more difficult. The Hatchet also has a different trigger configuration than other reciprocating saws. When the handle is folded, it feels like a cordless-drill grip and trigger, and when the saw is extended to its full length, it feels like the barrel grips found on grinders. This trigger setup is great when the handle is folded, but not as ideal when the tool is at its full length and being used like a traditional Sawzall. As with Milwaukee's other Sawzalls, this one features the excellent tool-free blade-changing system that reverses the blade when needed, and it has a fully adjustable pivoting shoe. The Hatchet's tough motor provides 2,700 strokes per minute, comparable to other top-of-the-line cordless reciprocating saws, and the tool uses the same reversible 18-volt Power Plus battery as other Milwaukee cordless tools. I have used Milwaukee sawzalls for years, but decided I want to also carry a cordless in my truck. Bought this one, loved the 90 degree handle, but I was only able to do about 8 long cuts on a kitchen cabinet demo before the battery died. Other reviews had warned about the stock battery being poor and that is correct. I am now going to look for a decent deal on the Lithum Ion battery.

I'm not a heavy user of saws, but the 'manual' saw takes too much effort for even the most minor tasks. (Occasional 2X4, tree branches, wood door. For under $100 (october-2008) this has helped be knock a few more things off my home-improvement-to-do-list. Its a bit heavier than expected and the charge seems to run out more quickly than I expected, but it does the job well and the price is very competitive. It comes with 2 blades.

Hands down, we love this saw. It's packing as much power as its corded colleagues—-maybe more—-but with the awesome convenience of a cordless. After getting what I thought was best, I started to read reviews. I decided to spend the extra money and bought a Milwaukee at Amazon. I am doing a lot of clearing of mostly Oak trees up to 6", some pine and cedar. I use the Milwaukee pruning blades that give me excellent service. The two finger trigger is a plus as is the ease of using the off switch. The saw is well built but heavier than my other saws. It took a little practice to get used to the rotating blade locking collar. I can highly recommend this saw.

Took saw home and charged, etc. as required and found later that it was recondition. Also battery charger does not light up when in use and saw when tilted to any other angle except upright, will not function.

Took saw back to Rural King and they refused refund or exchange because bought off clearance table. Not doing business there anymore either.

Went to Michigan Industrial Tools site and ,as of yet, have not been satisfied with any reply or info on replacemet parts.

I should mention up front that I bought these tools to have a reliable set of tools to work with on projects around the house, so they will not see the amount of wear and tear they would if they were purchased by a contractor. Hence my opinion is based upon what I use them for.

I purchased this set on the recommendation of a friend. So far I have found the battery life to be very good, with two batteries anytime that I have needed a second battery it has been fully charged, though most of the time I can do multiple projects on one battery.

The drill has plenty of power to drive screws or drill holes, including into pressure treated lumber. I cannot comment about the hammer function as I have yet to have an occasion to use it, but if it is anything like the 14.4 volts DeWalts I have used in the past I am sure it will go through concrete like butter.

The reciprocating saw has done everything I have asked it to (as long as I had the right blade.) From tree trimming, to cutting wire shelving, to minor demolition it has worked flawlessly. It is light weight enough to handle easily and for long periods of time.

The circular saw has cut through anything I have put in front of it from 2x4s to pressure treated lumber to landscaping timbers and 3/4" plywood. The cutting is quick and smooth. It is lightweight enough to work with in just about any position you might find yourself needing to make a cut.

I have not yet had a chance to test out the the light included in this combo kit. If it works half as well as the rest of the tools I am sure I will be happy with it the first time I have to work under the sink, in the attic, under the house or after sundown.

One correction to make to the product description, it states "the four-piece combo kit comes with . . . a soft-sided carrying case." Thankfully this is not the case it comes with the hard plastic case pictured on the page. I shudder to think what conditions the tools may have been in without the hard case; UPS was not very kind to the package, thankfully nothing was damaged.

I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone I know. I was also happy with how quickly it was delivered after I placed the order.

I bought this set a couple of years ago, and use all of the tools regularly. The first and foremost bit of advice is this: don't compare these to corded tools. This should go without saying, but to set realistic expectations, battery-operated tools simply can't perform at the level of (or for the duration of) their corded counterparts.

That being said, the kit does come with a quick charger (about 2 hours for a full charge) and a second battery, so you can tackle large jobs without long charging interruptions.

The drill gets used pretty much daily, and I've never had a problem with it. It's got plenty of power, and the clutch comes in handy when screwing into delicate items. It also has 2 speeds for greater versatility and control.

The circular saw slices its way through boards as swiftly and eagerly as my 120V Craftsman saw -- of course it won't tackle that many without changing the battery, but you knew that already...

The reciprocating saw is one of my favorites too. The fact that it is cordless makes it irreplaceable in certain circumstances. I've put aggressive blades on it, and pruned 3" branches off my maple trees. I've also chopped through some pretty thick stainless steel lag bolts with the hack saw blades. Hold on tight -- this thing has some torque to it!

Lastly, there is the flashlight. When I purchased this kit, I thought I would never use it. Strangely, I find that I use that thing more and more. It is very convenient, adequately bright, sits upright on its own base (which is the battery), and can wrap around pipes, etc. to accommodate odd-angle lighting.

The carrying case is pretty much your average run of the mill blow-mold plastic box, but it does make a great storage container. Overall, I gotta give this 5 stars; I would be mechanically helpless without this set. Well, maybe not, but I sure would miss it!
